Tree Identification Hike
(2 hours/ Moderate to Difficult due to elevation changes / 1.5 miles)
Our newest trails on Blevins Gap have a variety of trees to explore! Sweetgum? Chittamwood? Maple? You’ll know the difference after an afternoon learning how to identify some of our native species with Forester Callie Schweitzer .
Location: Blevins Gap Nature Preserve (Walsingham Trailhead) – From Cecil Ashburn headed east toward Hampton Cove, turn left at Donegal Drive then left onto Walsingham. Park on left side of the road near the trailhead.

The Liz Hurley Ribbon Run features a 5K run and a Survivors’ Walk. The 5K course will take runners through beautiful downtown Huntsville, including the Twickenham and Old Town Historic Districts. The race will take place on Saturday, October 15 starting at the corner of Lowe Avenue and Adams Street, and ending at Huntsville Junior High School. The 5k (3.1 miles) begins at 6:30 p.m. On Monday Dec 2nd with the course winding through the newly paved Galaxy of Lights trail. Pets, strollers, headphones and non registered participants are not allowed on the course. Due to the construction of the new visitors center this years course will not be certified.
The 3K Holiday Dash(1.8 miles) begins at 6:30 on Tuesday Dec 3rd with the course winding through the newly paved Galaxy of Lights trail. Pets, Headphones and non registered runners over 3 years of age are not allowed on the course. Strollers are welcome. Participants under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. The run will not be timed but will be full of great light displays, fun holiday music and prizes from our many generous sponsors.
