Description

What’s better than running by yourself? Running with a bunch of crazy fun people, that’s what! Spend your Saturday morning and Sunday morning running or walking along the beautiful Tennessee River, with a bunch of the funnest runners you’ve ever met.

The course is basically completely flat, on a paved path that meanders by the Chickamauga Dam, behind the campus of Chattanooga State, and alongside the Tennessee River, passing playgrounds and restrooms with toilets that flush. The new kids race covers 1/4 of a mile, around the grassy area by the start/finish line.

Yep, you read that right, toilets that flush and sinks with running water and soap. Is this a runner’s dream or what?

You will pass the start/finish/aid station area multiple times throughout the race. This means you’re welcome to leave a drop bag to access your own personal goodies and you can shed layers as you warm up. This is also a good place to reapply sunscreen, address any potential issues such as blisters, etc.

Both races are super low-key and non-competitive; we’d prefer to race you vs. you, not you vs. anyone else. There is an 8 hour time limit for all distances.

Your registration fee includes entry into the race distance of your choosing, race swag, finisher medal for all distances, and our usual aid station setup including Gatorade, water, Gu, and snacks and post-race food.

Shirts are NOT included in your race fee. We do give out race swag, it just won’t be a shirt! As is tradition with this race, shirts, tank tops, hoodies, and other swag will be available for purchase on race day.

We accept donations of old shoes to be given to the homeless via the Community Kitchen at this race, and have proudly donated over 1,000 pairs of shoes over the years!

As with any other race put on by any other company, registration fees and add-on fees are final and are not refundable or transferable for any reason. Prices are subject to change. The races will go on rain, snow, or shine.

If you will be running BOTH days, please use code BOTH to get $10 off your second day’s registration. You’ll only get one set of race swag items, as if you were running one race, but you’ll get different medals for each day’s race and a third medal for doing both! You can mix and match race distances using this option.

Trash Panda 5k, 10k, Half & Full Marathon, 50k @ Raccoon Mountain Pumped Station Reservoir - Laurel Point
Sep 21 @ 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
Place
Raccoon Mountain Pumped Station Reservoir – Laurel Point
Chattanooga, TN US 37419
Description

What’s a trash panda? It’s a fun term for a raccoon…because they sort of look like giant pandas (in their coloring) and they sort of look like red pandas (which sort of look like raccoons) and also, they like to dig through the trash. It’s also the slightly-bratty-but-still-kinda-cute little sister race to our perennial powerhouse, the Raccoon Mountain Marathon. In fact, if you ran ANY of the spring Raccoon Mountain races, and you run the Trash Panda, you get a third medal. Because anyone rad enough to hang out with us on the same mountain twice a year deserves some extra lovin’.

Brought to you by the cool kids at Awesomesauce Events and Run Chattanooga.

START/FINISH: Laurel Point on Raccoon Mountain in Chattanooga, Tennessee
WHEN: Saturday, September 21, 2019, 9am EASTERN

SWAG:
– We’re not exactly sure what the swag item will be just yet but we promise it won’t be a shirt.
– Wooden finisher medal. Not mass-produced-in-China and made-out-of-metal.
– NOTE: We do not give t-shirts as swag like most races. We’re not most races. Some people like hoodies, some people like long sleeves, some people like short sleeves, and some people don’t want a shirt at all. So we’ve got them available for purchase. Pre-orders for shirts close August 25th. We’ll have a few extras available on race day.

COURSE:
We will be using only the trails that connect to Laurel Point. The loops is about 2.5 miles long. We’ll have an out-and-back section marked for each distance to get you to the appropriate mileage.

The trail is technical in that there are roots and rocks, but it’s not particularly difficult. There are no water crossings. Trail shoes are useful, but not necessary. Beginners, hikers, children of all ages are welcome. There is an eight hour time limit for all distances. You must be out on your last lap by 3:45pm. We don’t DNF; we’ll give you a finish time for the distance you did complete.

AID STATION:
AKA, what we’re known for. There will be one gigantic aid station that you’ll pass on each lap. At the aid station will be Gatorade, water, Coke, Mountain Dew, energy gels, a variety of chips, candy, and cookies, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, pickles and pickle juice shots, and a full array of non-food supplies like Vaseline, salt pills, etc. Please bring your own painkillers if you think you will need them and use them responsibly!

You are welcome to leave a drop bag at the designated area near the aid station. Feel free to bring a chair to put your drop bag on, a full change of clothes, your teddy bear, whatever you think you’ll need to make it through your chosen race distance.

Packet Pickup:
Saturday, September 21, 2019, 7:30am – 8:55am at Laurel Point on Raccoon Mountain

This race will be timed and results will be posted.

IMPORTANT!!!! IMPORTANT!!!! IMPORTANT!!!! IMPORTANT!!! IMPORTANT!!! IMPORTANT!!!

This is NOT a slick, corporate, super-professionally produced race. We’re still the same grassrootsy, laid-back people we’ve always been. We cater to the non-competitive, fun-loving runners of the world. We are a bunch of dorks that can measure a course and make it fun. If you are expecting Ironman-levels of infrastructure and an army of volunteers, you aren’t going to get it from us. If you want to have a good time in an atmosphere that is more ‘giant group run’ and less ‘super professional NYC marathon’-type thing, we’d love to invite you to join us! If you’re only worried about running super fast and not about enjoying your experience, this is NOT the race for you. We welcome the fast and the slow, we just don’t want anyone to be disappointed in what they get when they register, so we don’t keep it a secret that we value camaraderie over competition!
